  • Lionel Lemay

    Sr. Vice President, Structures and Sustainability for the NRMCA

    Mr. Lemay is Sr. Vice President, Structures and Sustainability for the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA). He leads a team of professionals to offer building owners and design professionals cost effective, durable and sustainable concrete building solutions though communications, education, research, design assistance and codes and standards advocacy. He has written over 50 articles on concrete design and construction and is co-author of the McGraw-Hill book Insulating Concrete Forms for Residential Design and Construction and contributor for FEMA 320 Taking Shelter From the Storm: Building a Safe Room For Your Home or Small Business.

    Mr. Lemay is a Registered Professional Engineer and Structural Engineer in the State of Illinois. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional. He is a member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and serves on the ACI concrete sustainability and residential concrete committees. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and serves as a member of the ASCE Structural Engineering Institute Sustainability Committee. Mr. Lemay holds a bachelors and masters degree in civil engineering and applied mechanics from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

  • Arif Husain Al Marzooqi

    Head of Products Conformity Assessment Section Dubai Central Lab Department- Dubai Municipality

    Mr. Arif Husain Al Marzooqi was appointed as Head of Products Conformity Assessment Section in Dubai Central Lab Department (DCLD) of Dubai Municipality effective December 6th, 2015.

    Graduated from UAE University with Bachelor Degree of Science Major Geology in the year 2000. He joined the Municipality in 2000 as a Field Studies Researcher Assistant, and was later promoted to the post of Acting Head of Research and Standardization Management Office. He was later appointed as Head of Research and Standardization Management Office in which he was looked after the Standards development for testing and products specification for conformity assessment.

    He was promoted in 2012 to the post of Acting Head of Inspection and Certification Section. Mr. Arif chaired a number of committees in Dubai Municipality such as the Technical Approval Committee, Development of Dubai Soil Profile Mapping Committee, Concrete Sustainability Team and participated as active member in a lot of other committees such as Strategic Transformation Management Team of DCLD, Establishing International Center for Halal Products Accreditation and Certification Team, Certification Advisory Committee, Certification Technical Committee, DCL Internal Auditor Team and DCL Awards and Innovations Team. He was also instrumental in winning some more than 10 local, regional and international awards for DCL and Dubai Municipality, and have a big role in making DCL/Dubai Municipality Conformity Mark available and existing in more than 22 countries around the world and development of more than 70 standards for testing and products specification.

  • Wilko van der Meer

    Managing Director of Doka Concremote

    Mr. Wilko van der Meer is the managing director of Doka Concremote and the managing director and co-owner of BAS Research & Technology. With over a decade of experience in the concrete industry, Mr. van der Meer completed his bachelor’s degree in business economics from the Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Eindhoven, Netherlands and held board positions in various companies that operate in the areas of FMCG, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications. In his capacity as Doka Concremote’s managing director, Mr. van der Meer oversees the development and industry integration of Concremote, a remote in-place concrete sensor that yields real-time information on compressive strength build-up and hydration temperature evolution, helping to expedite concrete operations, while offering significant cost savings. Mr. van der Meer also is co-owner of BAS Research & Technology, a company specializing in optimizing concrete mix-designs for durability and sustainability, old age concrete degradation expertise and research and development of construction materials and their material properties. BAS is an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited research center with branches in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

  • Dr. Christopher Drew

    Director of Sustainability, Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture

    Dr. Christopher Drew is an internationally awarded Environmental Scientist and Sustainability Manager. He brings an understanding of the built environment with the natural environment and urban ecosystems through almost 20 years working as an environmental specialist. Dr. Drew contributes to AS+GG projects through establishing the sustainable design vision, goals and targets and then working closely with the architecture team and sub‐consultants to develop appropriate implementation strategies. He has supported all of AS+GG most significant projects and helped the firm to win numerous environmental design awards. Prior to joining AS+GG in 2009, Dr. Drew was the Department Manager for Sustainability at Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, a project which is still considered to be the most sustainable large community development project in the world. Prior to that he was the environment and sustainability manager for the Abu Dhabi Airport Expansion Program – at the time the largest airport project in the world.

  • Andreas Tselebidis

    Director of Concrete Technology & Solutions in the Admixtures Systems

    Andreas Tselebidis is Director of Concrete Technology & Solutions in the Admixtures Systems. He received a Master in Science in Civil Engineering and PhD studies at the University in Siegen, Germany. In his role, Andreas is responsible for the initiation, evaluation and implementation of Green Sense Concrete technologies that address wide-spread concrete performance issues in Sustainable Superstructures.

    Andreas started in Germany as the head of concrete research and development and is currently residing in New York City. He has been with BASF for over 15 years, authored over 30 technical papers in various concrete industry journals and has 9 patents on concrete technology. He has been integral with implementation of sustainable concrete solutions on signature projects nationally and worldwide - including 432 Park Avenue and the World Trade Center Towers. He was recently selected by ENR’s editors as one of the Top 25 Newsmakers in 2015.

  • Dr. Moetaz El-Hawary

    Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Kuwait University

    Dr. Moetaz El-Hawary (Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Kuwait University) earned his B.Sc. with honors, from King Saud University, Saudi Arabia in 1980 and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of California at Davis, USA in 1982 and 1987, respectively. Before joining Kuwait University, Dr. Moetaz was a Senior Engineering Consultant at Gulf Consult, Research Scientist at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research and a Professor of Properties and Strength of Materials at Fayoum University. He worked in many projects in the area of materials and concrete technology and published more than 130 publications including technical reports and papers in international journals and conferences. He is a member in many international associations including ACI and ASCE. He is a current board member and past president of ACI, Kuwait Chapter, for three terms. He is a member in ACI committee 130 (Sustainability of Concrete), ACI 201 (Durability of Concrete) and ACI 555 (Recycling of Concrete). His areas of interest include concrete technology, building materials, polymers, blended cements, composites, mathematical modeling, recycling of structural waste, sustainability of structures and rehabilitation and repair of structures.

  • William J Parker

    Senior Project Manager of CCC

    Following a period of four years with Costain in both Melbourne and London, Bill was appointed project manager for an 18-storey tower at 1 Collins Street, an area of Melbourne known for its historic Victorian facades and acknowledged as one of the most prestigious addresses in the ‘Paris end’ of the city.
    Graduating from running one tower to three, Bill then followed a period in development management working with and managing the design teams in Australia, USA, Hong Kong and Japan, before founding a design construction practice in 1991 to construct industrial and residential buildings throughout Australia. In 1997, Bill founded a new practice in project and development management working as manager for projects such as Eureka Tower (92 storeys) and mixed use developments such as Melbourne Central and Southgate.
    In December 2006 after a similar role in San Francisco for an Australian developer, Bill was seconded from Grocon Australia to Arabian Construction Company (ACC) in Dubai, to manage high rise construction projects and mentor the development of construction engineers towards project managing buildings, including but not limited to the Princess Tower, Elite Residence, Pentominium, in Dubai and then in 2010 as Director of ACC India Branch, working on buildings including World One Tower, Mumbai and Supernova, Noida.
    Recently Bill completed the design phase of the Abu Dhabi Plaza in Astana, Kazakhstan for the Arabtec-CCC JV, taking a pre-existing design and undertaking a design-build process, by which the structure of the main 78 storey tower was completely reworked.
    Today, Bill is back in Dubai with CCC, managing a six-tower project while developing both a systems approach and mentoring younger staff to focus their acumen in assessing the organisational requirements, pitfalls and opportunities of their projects.
    With a career emphasis on high-rise projects, Bill has developed a unique understanding and approach when it comes to delivering high quality projects while remaining on time and on budget.

  • Assem Adly

    Commercial Manager of Concrete Industries Complex (CIC)

    Assem Adly is the Commercial Manager of Concrete Industries Complex (CIC) and thus represents the 3 subsidiaries of Al Shafar Group namely Hard Precast Building Systems (HPBS), Emirates Beton (EB) and Hard Block Factory (HBF) at their commercial fronts. Backed by his Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering from Ain Shams University and an extensive experience spanning 10+ years within the U.A.E construction industry, Assem specializes in various technical and commercial functions some of them being marketing, sales, estimation, contract and cost management, etc. His focus under the current role is to ensure commercial viability for all the projects undertaken by CIC and to act towards achieving strategic growth objectives. His track record of successful commercial implementations within HPBS & EB demonstrates his functional expertise in achieving strong results spanning multifaceted aspects both at operational as well as at management levels. Assem is also involved in the design and construction of various landmark projects around the UAE such as The Villa, Bay Square, City Walk Development, Al Falah Community to name a few.

    Jens has over 24 years’ experience in the design and documentation of a wide range of structures throughout 24 countries, from seismic retrofit in Nepal and Iran, Towers in Europe, Africa and in the Middle East, Sports Stadiums in Azerbaijan, Multi Arenas in Europe to large scale commercial and residential developments in the GCC countries.

    Jens has particular expertise in high-rise structures, precast building systems and building physics. Jens has experience with examining as well as mentoring master and PhD students at university level in relation to research and development projects.
